Portrait of Lu Chen, Ph.D.

Lu joined BioSymetrics in 2025 as Vice President of Product Development. She holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and brings more than 15 years of leadership experience spanning translational research, neurosicence, cell and gene therapy development, and CMC strategy. Her background includes deep expertise in advanced therapies such as dendritic cell vaccines, CAR-T, and gene-edited cell therapies.

Before joining BioSymetrics, Dr. Chen served as Vice President of Product Development/CMC at Lunai Bioworks, where she directed end-to-end CMC strategy and technical execution for multiple programs, including a gene-edited CD34+ hematopoietic stem cell-derived dendritic cell cancer vaccine platform that achieved complete tumor regression in humanized models. Earlier roles included Principal Scientist at Atara Biotherapeutics (leading process development and tech transfer for an allogeneic T-cell therapy supporting BLA activities) and Senior Scientist at FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific (developing cGMP-compliant cell culture media for cell and gene therapies). She has co-authored key publications on allogeneic dendritic-cell immunotherapies and supported multiple pre-IND FDA submissions. At BioSymetrics she now applies this translational and development experience to the AI-driven zebrafish behavioral screening platform for AUD therapeutic discovery.

I transitioned into this role because I wanted to apply rigorous translational and development experience to a high-impact area where better therapeutics are urgently needed. Alcohol use disorder affects millions of people and remains undertreated. Working with BioSymetrics’ AI-powered in vivo platform lets us quantify behavioral and cellular effects across the phases of AUD in a living system and accelerate the discovery of new candidates. I’m excited to lead this program and help turn high-quality data into therapies that can reach patients.
